My grandma passed down this recipe, and we continue to make this on the regular. It’ll be our fourth time this month

4 cups of cubed bread, approximately one inch thick and at least one day old
2 and 3/4 cups of milk
2 large eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup melted butter
1/3 cup raisins (optional)
Vanilla Sauce Ingredients:

1/2 cup full-fat milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup brown sugar
Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a casserole dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine milk, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
Gently fold in the cubed bread, ensuring it is evenly coated with the liquid mixture. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
If using raisins, add them to the bread mixture.
Pour the melted butter over the bread mixture and stir gently to combine.
